Like
a Child
“A Canadian Song with a Global Cause”
Songwriter Glenn Marais and producer Pete Swann wrote and recorded “Like
a Child” in January of 2005. Since then the song has evolved into
a global mission to fight AIDS in Africa. The song was inspired by Glenn’s
7-year old neighbor, Paige Pedlar, who wrote the book “Who Will
Cuddle Them When They Sleep”. In September 2005 “Like a Child”
was released to radio and is currently in rotation on 20 stations across
Canada. Recently Glenn has appeared on City TV news, CFTO news and SUN
TV with a video premier on Much More Music’s “Clip Trip”
slated for January 2006.
Glenn went to Africa to shoot the video for “Like a Child” in November of 2005. The video is set in communities surrounding Cape Town and shows children from the local orphanages and impoverished landscapes. Proceeds from the song and the video go to The Stephen Lewis Foundation, the Rotary Club’s RADAR division, V’ehavta (Jewish Woman’s Relief Fund) and the Howard Hospital in Zimbabwe.
Glenn is planning a concert in Africa entitled “Africa Awake” which will feature local musicians. The concert is not just a musical event, but a concept in self-empowerment as a method of fighting the pandemic and removing the stigma of having AIDS. The goal is to motivate and inspire African people to develop a strong sense of community, a sense of purpose and an awareness of their proud and rich African heritage.
The song and video will be released as a CD/DVD package. Bonus material will include the documentary “The Invisible Majority” shot in Africa, live performances and a photo gallery. Also included are songs from the upcoming CD “Alive in the Mud”. Along with the single, “Like a Child”, “Alive in the Mud” features stylistically diverse songs with the common theme that music can heal and inspire. For more information, visit ww.likeachild.ca.
